Key Stage 4 GCSE Science
Combined Science: Trilogy AQA 8464
The disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics play an important role in the understanding of our complex world and the universe we live in. Biology focuses on complex forms of life involving humans, animals and plants. Chemistry is the study of matter, its properties, how and why substances combine or separate to form other substances, and how substances interact with energy. Physics is the study of matter, energy, and the interaction between them.
Year 10 and Year 11:
Year 10 and 11 students follow the new AQA GCSE specification.
Those students following the Trilogy science route will complete 6 exams at the end of year 11 (2 Biology, 2 Chemistry and 2 Physics), each paper is 1 hour 15 minutes in duration. The qualification will be graded on a 17 point scale as follows: 1-1 to 9-9 where 9-9 is the best grade. This qualification is equivalent to 2 GCSE's and will be taught by two teachers over two years. Foundation and higher tier papers are available.
There is no coursework aspect of this course. Instead, students will complete required practicals which are integrated within the scheme of work. The content and skills covered in these practicals will be tested in the final written assessments.
