Science implements our School's Intent and we are particularly proud of the way we:
- develop highly literate, numerate and knowledgeable students who are self-regulating and resilient;
- prioritise individual worth and social cohesion in our lessons;
- develop thoughtful and engaged approaches to Science learning.
These are shown through independent and group activities, a focus on precise, technical language and the way we help students to self-regulate.
Key Stage 3
Our aims are those of the National Curriculum:
- develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
- develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.
- students are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
The curriculum is carefully structured in detail, with progressive levels of challenge for each year.
From Year 7, students undertake an enriched curriculum in the disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. We blend substantive and disciplinary knowledge, and have a firm foundation in literacy and communication.
By the end of Year 9, our students are able to successfully transition into KS4 because they have a secure understanding of scientific method, enquiry and capital.
We are nurturing the scientists of the future!
