In PE, our School's Intent is realised particularly as we:
- Carefully plan the taught and wider curriculum to ensure that not only are students’ basic skills secured, but they provide the foundation for future success;
- Develop students’ character alongside striving for academic excellence;
- Encourage our students to leave us healthy and happy, with a strong moral compass.
We have a broad range of activities on offer. Students learn through a range of teaching styles, and there is a focus on learning physical skills and techniques and technical language in each lesson. The quality of interactions means that students are able to take responsibility for their own learning behaviour and foster a lifelong positive relationship with physical activity.
Our aims are those enshrined in the National Curriculum:
- to develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities;
- to be physically active for sustained periods of time;
- to engage in competitive sports and activities;
- to lead healthy, active lives.
Key Stage 3
The curriculum is carefully structured: there are progressive levels of challenge.
From Year 7, students undertake a broad range of activities, developing their confidence and consistency in the core physical skills. They will also learn key knowledge and disciplinary vocabulary, and develop character. Students are actively encouraged to develop their understanding of physical activity as part of a fit and healthy lifestyle.
By the end of Year 9, our learners will have developed their knowledge to be able to select, apply and adapt the skills they have learned to the specific requirements of different activities. Students will be able to use a wide range of subject specific terminology, they will seek out challenges and work positively with their peers.

Key Stage 4
In Years 10 and 11, students are prepared for an active and balanced healthy lifestyle, by developing the advanced skills in activities and able to select, apply and refine them in increasingly complex situations. They will develop a deep understanding of a wide range of activities and take responsibility for their health and well-being. Some students study PE at GCSE level, learning about anatomy and physiology, physical training, sport psychology and socio-cultural issues.
Students will be ready for the next stage of their PE journey, making positive choices to stay active and healthy in their community or utilising the character they developed through PE.
