Embarking on a new career can be a daunting prospect – that’s why we’ve designed our Graduate Associate Training Programme. The programme provides a broad range of experiences, offers support tailored to your needs and pays a salary for the duration of the training. Our school is a great place to work, with significant emphasis on our core values and our belief that all students should be provided with opportunities to achieve their unique potential.
How does the programme work?
The programme can be divided into two phases, as follows:
Year 1 - Foundation Year
The foundation year is designed to provide a breadth of experience in working with students and colleagues in different settings across the school. The year will encompass three elements:
- Three placements: Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor, Subject Teacher. Each placement will last a term.
- A minimum of one residential visit (this is likely to be with Year 7 students to Govilon in the autumn term or with Year 8 students to the Isles of Scilly in the summer term)
- A Foundation Year assessment which will include termly reviews from your mentor(s). This will need to be successfully completed prior to starting Year Two.
Year 2 - Development Year
The development year will enable you to specialise and develop subject expertise. The year will encompass four elements:
- Subject placement as a novice teacher. This will last for the whole school year and you will progress to teaching up to 70% of a full time teaching timetable.
- Contrasting School Placement – this will provide you with the opportunity to experience teaching and working with students in another local secondary school.
- A minimum of one residential visit (this is likely to be with Year 7 students to Govilon in the autumn term or with Year 8 students to the Isles of Scilly in the summer term)
- Assessment Only qualification period (of 12 weeks) to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
You will be paid a salary whilst on the programme and all of your training fees will be paid by the school.
