Pupil Premium is government-funded financial support to raise the attainment of students who are disadvantaged. Such students are identified as those who:
- are eligible for free school meals, or have been eligible within the last six years;
- have been in local authority care for one day or more;
- have left local authority care because of adoption, a special guardianship order, or a child arrangements order.
- have been continuously looked after by the local authority for more than six months.
Students with parents in the armed forces are also eligible for a Service Premium.
How can I apply for free school meals?
Free school meals offer students in years 7-13 a £2.70 daily allowance towards the cost of a meal, to be spent at lunchtime. This funding does not carry over to the next day and is automatically uploaded to the child’s lunch account but is not reflected on your parent pay.
Free school meals can be issued to any family in receipt of the following:
- Universal Credit (annual net income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods)
- Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance or income-based Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guarantee element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you're not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying)
Once an application is made, the outcome will be confirmed instantly and emailed to you with a reference number. North Northamptonshire Council will process the application and notify us within 5 working days. Pupil Premium is automatically applied for at the same time.
