Redrow Regional U13 Rugby 7s Final

The Year 8 Rugby 7s squad qualified to be one of two schools to represent Northamptonshire in the Redrow Regional 7s Finals held at Northampton Saints last Wednesday.  The quality of the teams that qualified alongside them was a testament to the hard work and potential this team have.

The initial group games were going to prove a challenge against strong independent schools with a high standard of playing rugby.

Nevertheless despite two opening defeats against Warwick School and Bedford School, they should feel very proud of the score lines against these two schools. Both games were     defeats by 4 tries to 2, with Bishop conceding early on despite pulling back 2 well worked tries.  This meant they entered the Bowl competition.

The first game brought the first victory of the day against Buckingham School winning 4 tries to 1. The second Bowl game was a fantastic game against Lincroft School which ended in a 2 - 2 draw. A game perhaps the squad could have won but fatigue had started to set in due to playing on full sized pitches.  Nevertheless this draw put them into a position to qualify for the Bowl Final.

Cotswold School were a big, physical side that worked this advantage well and went on to win 5 - 2.   It was unfortunate that this meant that Bishop finished 3rd by tries scored with Lincroft going through to the final against Cotswold which Cotswold won.

The players gave their all and we could not have asked anything more from them. They can hold their heads high and be very proud of being 1 of only 3 state schools which    qualified for the finals.

Bring on next season #U14’s!
