Musical Talent

What a busy month our musicians have had!

On Saturday 17th March, many of our musicians spent the day and evening giving a final performance of 'Nene' in Peterborough Cathedral. It was an amazing experience, with approximately 600 students taking part. Even the coach journey back to Northampton in the snow at midnight couldn't detract from the excitement of the day.

Wednesday 21st March was the A Level Music Recitals. All 10 of our Year 13 group performed recitals which included flute, voice, piano, keyboard, violin and guitar. The music was wonderfully eclectic, including Gershwin, Schubert, Mozart, Chopin, Karl Jenkins and rock-school pieces. Everyone gave their all for this important recording, which forms 30% of their A level mark. Congratulations to the Year 13 music group.

Saturday 24th March saw Bishop Stopford Brass Band performing at the regionals of Music for Youth Festival in Northampton. They played with true pride and passion, and justly received glowing feedback from the mentors, including such comments as:

"how exciting to see such a large group from a single school"

"atmospheric and controlled...warm and expressive"

"there is obviously terrific work being done in your school in brass"

Huge congratulations to Mr Turnbull and all the BSS brass band players.

Monday 26th March was the Music Department's annual Spring Concert, and what a special evening it was. So many students of all year groups performed in 14 different ensembles. They have been rehearsing since January. The standard was excellent and the whole evening buzzed with the joy of music and teamwork. Our folk group gave us a thrilling finale, with singing, playing and dancing, leaving us all with an enormous smile to take home with us.

I am so proud of all our musicians, and very grateful to the marvellous team of Music teachers from NMPAT that we are lucky enough to work with. What a joyous evening.
