Combat Code

Last term Key Stage 3 Coding Club members had been participating in a Code Combat. This was a fantastic way for students to learn the programming language Python, whilst progressing through levels and destroying enemies in a gaming environment. The Code Club ran at lunchtimes and we had 23 members who took part in a competition at the end of term.

The winners were

  •  Alex Cheesewright 8P - first place
  •  Oliver Brookes 9C - second place
  •  Ngaire Kean 8Y and Tom Ellingworth 9C - joint third place

The winner and runners up received Amazon vouchers and computing accessories which were presented at the Year 8 and 9 assembly on Friday 4th of April. All participants received a certificate of recognition and an Easter treat.

As a new Computer Science teacher at Bishop Stopford School,  I am very proud of all the students who committed to the competition and worked hard through each level. I was especially proud of the camaraderie between students helping each other through difficult Python coding challenges.  The students exceeded my expectations in their attitude and approach to the competition, and in addition, all participants learnt new skills, some of them had never programmed in Python before Code Combat.
