Year 10 Enterprise and Employability Days
On Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd March, Year 10 students were involved in their enterprise days. The following article has been written by Abi Hardcastle and Freya Harris (both Year 10 students).
"Young Enterprise Day was all about developing eight employability skills, including confidence, organisation and team work. To help us consider the types of roles in small companies and understand how businesses work, we did a range of fun and challenging activities in our teams. We began by choosing a business to buy, and worked out how much it would cost to run for a year. We developed our financial capability to be able to do this. Also a name, logo and slogan were needed in order to promote the business, along with a uniform for employees to wear. Half-way through the day, we did a personality test which showed us our personal strengths. It helped us to understand the respective qualities of our team members and how we could use this to our advantage.
At the end of the day, we presented our companies to the judges in a sixty second elevator pitch. The day allowed us to improve our employability skills, as well as our confidence, and more importantly, helped us to understand that getting a job isn't all about good exam results. Soft skills are just as important.
Many thanks to Mrs Castle for organising the days - we were actively engaged and gained something different from the day."
