Holocaust Awareness Day

On Friday 14th July, our annual Holocaust Awareness Day for Year 10 students took place. During the morning, students were given opportunities to reflect on both the atrocities committed by the Nazis during the 1930s & 1940s and on the issue of genocide more widely.

The morning culminated in a talk delivered by Janine Webber, who experienced Jewish persecution throughout her childhood. Her amazing testimony focused on her family's efforts to keep her hidden, often finding refuge for her with non-Jewish families outside of the ghetto. This is the second time Mrs Webber has delivered her testimony to students at Bishop Stopford and her story touched all who attended.

Year 10 students found the morning very interesting and enlightening and in the afternoon were given an opportunity to work in small groups to relect on what they had seen and heard.

History students in Year 10 have also written letters to thank Mrs Webber for her visit and these have been posted to her. Mrs Webber was extremely impressed with the behaviour and interest of the students.
