GCSE Results 2020

Despite the significant turbulence surrounding public examinations, students at Bishop Stopford School received excellent GCSE results.

GCSE students have shown real resilience while bearing with difficult circumstances over the past months and have faced even more uncertainty during the past week. The vast majority will now be able to progress successfully to their post-16 choices. Headteacher Jill Silverthorne said she had nothing but admiration for the students in the way they have coped.

There was strong performance across all subjects at the school, maintaining its high standards. Nearly 10% students achieved at least five GCSEs at grade 9, including Rebekah Baynes and James Hogg, who were awarded grade 9s in every GCSE subject they studied.

Headteacher Jill Silverthorne went on to say, ‘In a year where results have been the subject of huge national focus and where ‘unprecedented’ really is the appropriate term, we must congratulate our students on their results. For many of them, today will be a relief as they start a new chapter at college, in apprenticeships or at sixth form.

‘As they now take these grades and move forward, we wish each one all the very best for the future.’
