Summary

The BTEC Level 2 First Award in Health and Social Care has been developed to provide an engaging introduction to the sector. It gives:

  • the opportunities to gain a broad understanding and knowlege of the health and social care sector;
  • a more focused understanding of health and social care;
  • the opportunity to develop a range of personal skills and techniques that are essential for successful performance in working life.

It also supports progression into a specialised Level 3 vocational or academic course or into an apprenticeship.

Assessment

Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Award in Health and Social Care:

2 Core Units 50%

Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development (Externally Assessed)

Explore human growth and development across life stages. Investigate factors that affect human growth and development and how they are interrelated.

Unit 2: Health and Social Care Values (Internally Assessed)

Explore the care values that underpin current practice in health and social care services.

2 Optional Units 50%

Unit 3: Effective Communication (Internally Assessed)

Investigate different forms of communication. Investigate barriers in health and care. Communicate effectively in health and social care.

Unit 5: Promoting Health and Wellbeing (Internally Assessed)

Explore the purpose type and benefits of health promotion. Investigate how health risks can be addressed through health promotion.

Enrichment Opportunities

Placements in local health, social and early years and a range of talks by professional carers.
